For the last few weeks I have played this song on repeat many times over. There are seasons in life in which the soul is weary and we feel broken down and tired, as if life is just one big merry-go-round. During these times it is good acknowledge the ache of our souls while also reminding it to rise up. Our faithful connection with each other in Love gives us the hope to do this, even a thousand times again.

Why, my soul, are you downcast?
    Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
    my Savior and my God.

Psalm 42:11

I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself, and then make a change.

What Michael Jackson sung about making the world a better place is true for marriage as well. It starts with the person in the mirror…you! Too often we look to our spouse to make the necessary changes to improve the marriage. While I am sure your spouse has many issues to work on, the marriage will likely stall out if you keep waiting on each other. Don’t wait. Have the courage to examine yourself and change your waysIt’s your move!

Christ put it this way (Matthew 7:3-5):

Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
