Sexual energy is creative. We likely feel more turned on and alive when we’re freely creating and offering our gifts to the world. And sometimes sexual frustrations are a clue to blocked creative energy elsewhere.

It’s clear the sex act itself has procreative power. But our urge to create is not limited to making babies.

God is a creative God. And we reflect his image in part by creating as well.

Whether we’re the butcher, the baker, or the candlestick maker, we have a deep urge to bring our creative gifts into the world.

And how freely and fully this is expressed connects also with the surge we feel in our own bodies.

For instance, we often want to celebrate our creative accomplishments through sex. Sex provides a direct and palpable experience that affirms the creative energy we expressed elsewhere.

We might also notice our sex drive becomes less intense when we’re more creative outside of the bedroom. All too often sex becomes our main creative outlet. And sexual preoccupation might be a sign we need to pour creative energies into other things.

At the same time, intrusive sexual thoughts, dreams, and fantasies might also be a clue we’ve neglected other creative outlets. We might fear these intrusions are revealing some secret and sinful desire, when actually the power of sex is simply getting our attention and reminding us to bring our gifts into the world.

Likewise, when we put ourselves out there in the world and experience a setback, rejection, or things just don’t go well, this can discourage us sexually. Impotence outside of the bedroom often leads to impotence inside the bedroom. And this is why simply taking a pill rarely fixes the problem.

In the end, sex and creativity are linked together. Learn to fully honor both of these expressions in your life.
