Many things in life will take place regardless of our intention. For instance, our bodies will continue to age with or without our permission. But some things in life will require an intentional decision to bring about. And becoming a kingdom man is one such thing.
To be sure, many men grow older but none the wiser. And even fewer learn to move beyond the selfish pursuits of success to build a kingdom that reflects God’s and blesses the lives of many others. But a true kingdom man takes seriously his duty to offer his life in service to others – making an impact for good in the world and allowing those within the realm of his domain to thrive.
And this starts by first submitting to the rule of God’s kingdom. We cannot effectively lead others if we ourselves are not being led. And our ability to generate life and goodness for others also only comes as we stay connected to Christ as the true Source of our life. We become bullies simply pushing our own agenda or otherwise impotent when we don’t first learn how to live as true sons within God’s kingdom.
All the same, as we learn how to become good kings by following the example of Christ, we must also take up the mantle of ruling over our kingdom. It’s a mark of immaturity to simply want to enjoy the blessings of God without also exercising the authority he has given us. And so we use our strength to protect and provide, to cultivate beauty and guide others toward a deeper life with God. Whatever it looks like, our kingdom should shine as a light in a dark world. And this is an intentional decision we must make. It won’t just happen drifting through life.
In the end, become a kingdom man by humbly submitting to the rule of God’s kingdom, even as you actively decide to make your kingdom a source of peace and blessing for many others as well.
