We’re told to worry about nothing and to pray about everything. Yet the sexual part of our lives is often absent from our prayer life—or reduced to pleading for help to resist temptation.
It is good to bring our struggles to God. But sexual brokenness is not only about what’s present—it’s also about what’s missing. We fall short not just through misuse, but also through neglect.
True healing involves wholeness. And sexual wholeness calls us to embrace the fullness of God’s design: intimate knowing, creative expression, and passionate joy.
So rather than only praying to avoid the darkness, we must also pray to be saturated with God’s light—even in the depths of our sexuality.
Here’s a prayer to that end.
***
Father, you created everything in heaven and on earth through your Son (Colossians 1:16), and therefore Christ is also the creator of my sexuality. Through your glorious power, you transferred me from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of your Son, who purchased my freedom and forgave my sins (Colossians 1:13–14). I am not my own. I have been bought at a price. My soul and very body belong to you, Lord Jesus, and I honor you with my sexuality. Renew my mind and transform my heart to present my sexuality to you as a living sacrifice—holy and acceptable in your sight (Romans 12:1).
Holy Spirit, search me and know my heart. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life (Psalm 139:23-24).
Every good and perfect gift comes from you, Father (James 1:17). In the beginning, you created us as male and female (Genesis 1:27). I rejoice that we’re so fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and I bless the body you have given me.
You have made the truth of who you are obvious to us, making your invisible qualities – your eternal power and divine nature clearly seen through everything you have made. We have no excuse for not knowing you (Romans 1:19-20).
Give me eyes and a heart to continually seek you through every sexual desire, curiosity, and fascination. May every alluring thought, image, and fantasy lead me back home to you. Awaken in me a pure and holy passion where desire has grown cold out of fear or passivity.
Father God, you are generous—pouring out your divine glory in countless ways (Psalm 19:1; John 1:14). And you’ve made us in your image (Genesis 1:27), with a shared desire to create and bring wonder into the world. Bless my creative energies and desire for variety. Give me a holy erotic imagination – one that’s always seeking to bring more life and goodness into the world through every sexual expression.
In your presence is fullness of joy, and at your right hand are pleasures forevermore (Psalm 16:11). Open my spirit, soul and body to freely receive all the joy and pleasure you have for me. Saturate me with your life and love. I receive every erotic delight as a gift of your love and presence with deep gratitude. Teach me to see beauty as an invitation – every pleasure as a whisper of your eternal joy.
You’ve entrusted us with the world you’ve created (Genesis 1:28; Psalm 8:4-8), including the power of our sexuality. Give me wisdom and discernment not to be wasteful with what you’ve given, and not to be neglectful either (Ephesians 5:15-17). I offer the fullness of my sexuality to you for your glory – rejecting selfish indulgences (Luke 15:13; Galatians 5:16-17) and no longer playing it safe in fear (Matthew 25:24-26). May every expression bring honor and praise to your name.
My sexuality is not my own (1 Corinthians 6:19). Cleanse me. Heal me (1 John 1:9; Psalm 147:3). And grant me the grace to reflect your passionate and eternal love. Shape my sexuality to reflect your truth, your goodness, and your beauty – now and forever. I pray all of this in the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen!
