Many might try to control us and get us to cave into their agenda. And this is successful only if we allow it – forgetting the freedom and strength God has given each of us. Remembering who God has created us to be allows us to live with a settled confidence despite what others might try to get us to do.
For instance, a lion generally has nothing to worry about from the threats of a little dog. However loud and persistent the dog might bark to try to get the lion to yield, the lion remains unfazed. The lion knows his strength and is not bothered by the demands of others. He doesn’t have to try to prove himself or demand others respect him. He simply rests in the dignity, glory, and power God has given him. And when it’s time to move, he does so according to the wisdom God has given him.
This is the settled confidence we need in our life and relationships as well. All too often we forget the power and strength God has given us as we passively follow what others want us to do.
Of course, this is easier as we’re not on the hook for the decisions made. We get to hide rather than taking the risk to offer our strength. But this eventually frustrates everyone. We become desperate and miserable when we don’t live in the strength God has given us. And we disappoint others as well. They expect us to come through for them, but we’re essentially castrated and unable to bring them the life they desire.
We must remember who we are in order to live with a settled confidence. We don’t become prideful or demanding ourselves, but we simply rest in the man God has created us to be – crowned with dignity, glory, and power.
Remember who you are and live with a settled confidence. This frees you to offer your strength and bless others without getting lost in their demands and expectations.
