This post is part of the Crucible Orientation Series, designed to help men discern whether the RISE Crucible is their next step.

Most men don’t avoid formation because they don’t want it. They avoid it because they can already see the cost.

They sense that something real would be asked of them—time, attention, energy, consistency—and they’re not sure where that would have to come from.

So they wait—telling themselves they need a little more clarity, a little more margin, a little more certainty that this will be “the right season.”

This is understandable, but it’s also where many men stall. Because waiting feels responsible and wise, it feels like you’re just keeping options open. But over time, waiting becomes a way of staying exactly where you are, while still feeling like you’re considering change.

What’s usually underneath the hesitation isn’t fear of failure. It’s fear of committing and discovering that you’ll be asked to show up differently than you have before.

Formation doesn’t begin when everything settles down. It begins when a man decides that becoming matters more than staying comfortable. This doesn’t mean recklessness, but it does mean choosing direction over drift.

The RISE Crucible is designed for men who are no longer interested in circling the question. It’s for men who are ready to submit their strength to a process of being shaped, tested, and put to use, rather than managed indefinitely.

For now, notice where you may be waiting, not because you’re unsure, but because deciding would require a courageous step of faith.
