There is so much we’re looking forward to we can hardly wait for it to arrive. But our great expectations can keep us so focused on tomorrow that we miss the fullness of life available today.

It’s natural to be excited about all that is to come – graduations and weddings, new jobs and births, empty nests and retirement.
And while sometimes the focus is truly on what is to come, at other times we’re just desperate to leave our current state behind. Is it the new job we’re looking forward to, or are we simply ready to kick our old job to the curb?
In either case, whether we are running toward something or away from something, we often miss today in rushing ahead.
For better or worse, today is part of our story that needs to be honored.
Those who are faithful with little are also faithful with much.
In a similar way, those who are faithful with today will also be faithful with tomorrow.
Said another way, if we shortchange today we will likely shortchange tomorrow as well.
To truly value all that is to come we must first fully value all that is.
We value today by accepting it on its terms – the good and the bad.
To be sure, the pain and heartache of some days we wish we could skip. But even these difficult days are refining and should be blessed for the ways in which they shape us into the man God has called us to be.
Likewise, there are priceless moments we only experience once. For instance, we get one season of childhood with our kids. If we’re not careful we miss the million joys along the way in the rush to grow them up.
Through the joys and the pain let each day do its needed work in the making of our souls.
Don’t miss the fullness of today by living for tomorrow.
