It’s unlikely we perfect something the first time we try. It often takes much practice to master something new. And we must not let disappointment and embarrassment hold us back. We must keep trying time and again until we accomplish the good God has put on our hearts to do.

Walking is natural. And it’s still something we must learn how to do, with many trips and stumbles along the way. And the same holds whenever we try to offer our strength and gifts to the world.

For instance, regardless of our job, we start off inexperienced. And our first attempts might be cringeworthy. But in time we get better as we keep showing up. And eventually, we make the job look easy, though we had to put in our sweat equity to get there.

Communication with our wife might also be a challenge as it often seems we’re speaking two different languages. But as we keep trying to understand each other we can find our flow and deepen our connection together.

Likewise, our sex life might also require us to keep trying again and again to fully enjoy the playful creativity, intimate romance, and embodied joys available. While putting our bodies together is natural, it’s still something we must keep practicing at to get better.

To be sure, it’s easy to give up when things don’t go well the first time. And we might even start to wonder and doubt if we will ever get there. Perhaps this goodness is for others and not for us.

But often the only thing that holds us back is our own willingness to keep trying even through our initial disappointments. And we forfeit our potential when we do.

In the end, success does not depend on your ability to be perfect in your first attempt. Success comes when you have the courage to try, try again.
