Everyday we enter into the unknown. We make our plans, but we really have no idea what the day will require of us. And, in big and small ways, this is all part of the adventure of life we do well to learn to embrace.
Of course, we make plans for our life and tend to have a good idea how any particular day is likely to go. In fact, many days might seem boring and filled with the mundane as we repeat the same rhythm day after day.
But then there are days in which we’re met with the unexpected.
A flat tire, a flooded basement, or perhaps a storm that knocks the power out. Or maybe there are sudden changes at work, shocking news from a family member, or surprise medical expenses we didn’t anticipate.
Whatever it looks like, life is filled with many unexpected twists and turns, from the minor hassles to the major disruptions.
And, in the middle of it, we’re frustrated and irritated to say the least. This is not how we saw our day going and now there’s one more thing on our plates to deal with.
It helps to remember life is an adventure and to approach it as such.
Adventures by their very nature are not scripted and are prone to many unexpected challenges and obstacles along the way.
And this is all part of the package we readily accept whenever we embrace the spirit of adventure. We understand the challenges are not without meaning and they’re refining us for the next stage of our journey.
This doesn’t make it any less of a hassle or disruption. But it does help keep us from getting stuck in the weeds of life as we remember we’re part of a much larger story.
To be sure, life is filled with many unexpected hassles and disruptions. But, with much courage, grace, and wisdom, live well by learning to accept these as simply part of the adventures of life.
