While life is lived in the present, there remains much wisdom in both looking back and looking ahead. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow each have something to teach if we’re willing to learn.

Yesterday

The past shows us what’s already been discovered. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel.Even in our personal life, there’s a lot we can learn by simply reflecting on what we’ve already been through.

The more we forget our history the more likely we are to keep repeating the same mistakes.

While we don’t want to get stuck in the past, we must remain humble enough to learn from yesterday.

Today

We live and move and have our very being in today. And when we keep reliving the past or becoming overly anxious about what’s to come, we miss all the beauty and goodness presently available.

While the past and future both have their place, the fullness of life is experienced in this present moment.

Today teaches us to remain connected to all that is available now.

Tomorrow

And there’s still a need to look ahead and see where we’re going. Without vision we miss our potential and settle for just making it through the day.

To be sure, we can get stuck in wishful thinking disconnected from reality. But living only in the here-and-now without dreams and aspirations shortchanges what we’re capable of accomplishing.

Tomorrow reminds us to stay open to all that can be.

***

We need the wisdom of yesterday, today, and tomorrow to experience all that God has for us – neither neglecting the past, robbed of the present, nor deprived of future possibilities.

Take the time to learn from each and discover the richness of life that follows.
