The many demands of life leave little time for deep reflection. And it seems like a luxury to examine the motivations of our heart. But it’s the examined life that allows us to experience the fullness of our vitality.
Day after day we simply do what needs to be done to get through the day. We work and pay bills and try to spend a little time with family and friends.
But rarely do we step back and consider the Why behind what we do. This takes work and it’s often easier just to go along with the status quo.
However, when we don’t examine our motivations we’re like a tree tossed in the wind without roots.
The unexamined heart leaves us impoverished and without a solid foundation to navigate our life and relationships.
For instance, we work merely to pay the bills when we don’t examine the gifts God has given us. Why has he gifted us as he has?
Likewise, our relationships remain shallow when we don’t examine the deeper purpose and meaning of the relationship. Why has God brought us together?
Excavation takes time and we must stick with the questions. The deep movements of our heart are not discovered overnight.
But as we examine, we’re able to make informed decisions – doing work the matters and forging meaningful relationships.
Many are content with the unexamined life. But without examination we’re not free to discover and experience all that God has for us.
On the other hand, the examined life gives us clarity and confidence. We’re able to experience the fullness of our vitality as we bring more life and goodness into the world.
Don’t shortchange your life. Take the time to examine the motivations of your heart and discover God’s best for you.
