Some things we do just because it needs to be done. And this is honorable work. But occasionally there’s a work that captivates us – we’re drawn to it and want to give ourselves fully to it. This work is sexy.
Work is not generally something we think of as sexy or even having the capacity to be sexy.
Sexy work is not about a particular job, but rather our way of being with the work we do. And this entails desire, deep giving, and the creation of something new.
Desire
What is the work we’re drawn to – the work that captivates our imagination and doesn’t let us sleep at night without thinking about it?
Sometimes artist are known for thinking night and day about their craft. Something draws them to it and they’re not satisfied until their attention turns to that which stirs their soul.
The same can be true for us – to have a work that demands our attention. We might call this our sweet spot or what we were born to do.
Pouring Ourselves Out
But more than just desire, sexy work also includes the fully giving of ourselves.
This giving is not merely in terms of time or effort, but more of essence. We pour from the depths of our soul into the work we love.
And we wouldn’t have it any other way. This consummation of our desire – connecting our heart with our work is deeply gratifying.
New life
And the fruit of sexy work is the creation of something new. This might be a new product or service, but also a new idea, insight, or connection.
Whatever the case, more life and goodness is birthed into the world through our labor of love.
Honorable work is good work. But all the better when it’s also sexy.
Whenever possible, do sexy work.
