We don’t have to look far to see the dark side of male sexuality, everything from sexual assaults, addictions, and secret affairs. Much harm has been done by the misuse of our sexuality.
And while it is good for us to name and directly confront our sins, we must also be careful of the unspoken messages communicated of our hyper-focus on this dark side.
When we only communicate the bad, we implicitly agree with much of the world that there is nothing really good about male sexuality – it’s inherently destructive, dangerous, and needs to be kept on a tight leash.
Yet, God called his creation, including our sexuality, very good!
Our task as the sons of God is to seek the Light more than we fear the darkness, and even more so, to be the light.
Instead of playing it safe and allowing immature or corrupt men to be the only example of sexuality for our communities, it’s time to rise up and show them a better way. If not us (as the men of God) then who?
Yes, let us weep and grieve for all the harm that has been done, and then let’s do something about it. Let us cast a higher vision for our sexuality that can shine as light in a dark world.
What if the world could see the strength of God reflected through our sexuality, being more creative, passionate, and generous in all our actions and relationships?
It is true, only light can cast out darkness. So, when we let our sexuality shine we become a light for our neighbors and God is glorified.
Are we willing to do what it takes – to find coaches and other men who are also committed to this higher vision of being lights in the world, even sexually?
This will not be easy, but worth every effort, as it is not okay for the goodness of our God to be questioned because we played it safe, refusing to grow and set a better example.
Let us live as the true sons of God and show the world a mature and inspiring sexuality, filled with goodness and joy.
