We like to keep our options open – to live unrestricted and to flow with the winds of change. What’s good today may not be good tomorrow. But it takes the power of commitment to grow into our full potential.

Commitment allows us to endure the challenges of growth and to eventually reap the rewards.

We need an unwavering commitment at home, with our friends, and in our work.

At Home

In many respects, our commitments at home are the easiest to see. We make a public vow to our wives and we’re bound by blood to our kids. These are not just our moral and social obligations, but also legal ones.

But our duty is not fulfilled here by simply being present. Our responsibility is to invest in the lives of our family.

As such, we don’t get to check in and out of their lives haphazardly. We grow as men when we fully commit to investing in their good for life.

Friendship

Friendships often change with the seasons. While this is a natural course for many of these relationships, our lack of commitment also makes this more likely.

Without committed friends, our growth is limited. Iron sharpens iron in the enduring bond of friendship.

As such, we remain dull as men if we don’t accept the burden and charge of cultivating these meaningful relationships.

Our Work

God has given us each a part to play in his story – a role and work that is ours alone. And like Adam, our work is also frustrated.

Through the thorns of fear, the weeds of distraction, and the scorching heat of criticism we must remain committed to the work given to us.

If we don’t give up, we can experience all the good God is trying to bring into the world through us.

It’s much easier to keep our options open and to take the path of least resistance.

But the power of commitment allows our work, home, and friendships to grow into all that God has for them.
