Much of our original glory has been lost through abuse, misuse, and complacency. Many things are not as they should be and there is much to be restored. And our life with God includes this work of redemption.
Property is restored when it no longer holds its original beauty. The owner still values its inherent goodness and seeks to bring it out again.
And the work of Christ seeks to bring our life and relationships back into alignment with God’s original glory for us.
This includes every area of our life – our work, sexuality, and traditions to name only a few.
Redeeming Our Work
God gave man the responsibility to look after and care for the earth and the things created. In short, we were made to work and we thrive when we’re engaged in work that matters.
Redeeming our work means not simply being another cog in the machine, but discovering the work that brings more life and goodness into the world.
Redeeming Our Sexuality
Sexuality is part of God’s good creation intended for us to enjoy to the full. But the culture around us still sets much of the tone.
Redeeming our sexuality includes actively upgrading our language and transforming our imaginations to allow for the full expression of our sexual incarnation.
Redeeming Our Traditions
We each develop a certain way of doing life – certain ways we choose to celebrate and honor, grieve, commemorate, and the like. These make up our traditions.
And even when our traditions have a checkered past, the work of redemption frees us to incorporate many cultural practices into our expressions of love and honor of God.
All too often we’ve allowed the thief of goodness to steal the fullness of life God has for us.
We join Christ in his work of redemption by bringing our life and relationships back into alignment with God’s larger purposes.
Where is redemption still needed in your life?
Don’t settle. Engage in the work of redemption.
