We live in a dangerous and unpredictable world. And even the people of God have to face many tragedies. But we follow Christ by entrusting ourselves to God and not giving way to fear.
To be sure, there’s risk at every turn – from accidents and illnesses, to divorce and untimely deaths.
And it’s clear we don’t live in Mayberry. Not everyone has our best interest in mind.
Evil exist.
In fact, we’re warned to stay alert and watchful because we have a great enemy on the prowl looking for someone to devour.
And it’s naïve to put our head in the sand and pretend danger does not exist.
But a healthy respect for danger doesn’t mean we live in fear.
We are still the true sons of God and we live with a bold and courageous faith despite the many uncertainties around.
When God is for us, we don’t have to fear any of the calamities and hardships we might face.
We don’t get a pass on them. But we don’t have to lose heart either.
With Christ, we entrust ourselves to God – confident that he judges fairly and works all things out for good.
As such, we don’t have to fear what others think about us, who is in office, or what laws are passed. And we don’t have to fear engaging in the world, living boldly, and freely exploring all the good God has for us.
It’s still a dangerous and unpredictable world. But we put our faith into practice by not giving way to fear.
Our enemy has already taken us out when we do.
Stay alert. There’s risk and danger at every turn. But do not give way to fear. God is still God and he will faithfully guard your soul.
