Life rarely turns out as we expected. It often comes with many twists and turns, unexpected delays, and apparent setbacks. But while we don’t always understand why we must endure the things we do, in our better moments we’re able to step back and sense God is leading us through it all.
To be sure, it’s only natural to dream and make plans for our life. And, of course, we’re frustrated and disappointed when things don’t happen on our timeline or in the way we had imagined.
And it’s easy to grow jealous of others when on the outside it seems as if everything in their life seems to just fall into place, while we work hard but are not yet able to fully enjoy the fruit of our labor.
Certainly, everyone has their own story and it’s difficult to know why we have to face the things we do. But we can trust that God is with us and that he is leading us to exactly where we need to be, even through the seemingly small and random aspects of our life.
For example, it was while Saul was out looking for his father’s donkeys that he met Samuel and was anointed king of Israel. Even through stray animals, God was leading him to where he needed to be.
And the same remains true for us today. Perhaps relational heartbreaks and unsuccessful interviews, flat tires and broken appliances are just random events in this fallen world. Or maybe God’s hand is here guiding us along the way.
This is not to suggest huge revelations are tied to every life event. But it is learning to trust God is in the details of our life – leading us toward the good he has planned for us.
Occasionally, we get glimpses of this along the way. But often it’s not until we’re able to look back that we can see what God was up to all along.
In the end, learn to rest in the adventures of life. Things might not always make sense or happen as you expect. But as you live by faith you can trust you’re being led to exactly the good God has for you.
