The measure of a man is not in the hits he takes, but in his willingness to get back up again. Life is hard and often we feel like giving up. But we mature in faith as we keep going and never give up.
To be sure, many days we might wonder if our efforts are worth it. We offer our blood, sweat, and tears with seemingly nothing to show for it. Or maybe it feels like we’re the only ones trying to make a difference. Either way, it’s easy to lose heart and give up.
And certainly there’s wisdom in reconsidering our current situation. Perhaps we are heading down the wrong road and it’s time to change course. But ideally this is a grounded decision to now move in the right direction and not merely a reaction to stop because we’re too tired to keep going.
For example, accomplishing God’s calling will not be easy. And there might be a season or two before we start to see the fruit of our labor. But this fruit will only be produced if we don’t give up.
Marriage often goes through many dark days as well. And it’s tempting to consider if we should continue. But it’s only through enduring this relational crucible that our marriage can move toward its potential.
Likewise, it’s easy to give up fighting for our friendships when the demands of life get the best of us. But even here we’re changed for the better through our efforts, and even through seasons in which there’s little reciprocation.
Whatever it looks like, we miss the good God has for us when we give up prematurely.
In the end, your efforts are not in vain. Keep fighting the good fight and discovering the good God has for you.
