It’s God’s power at work in us that allows us to accomplish all that we do. And part of living by faith is learning to trust his power rather than trying to do life on our own. At the same time, faith is active and requires something of us. We’re not living by faith by simply passively waiting on God to act.For instance, as the children of Israel were fleeing Egypt and approaching the Red Sea, Moses instructed them to stand still and watch how God would rescue them.
God then responded by asking Moses why he’s crying out to him and instructed him to tell the people to get moving crossing the sea.
It was God’s power that allowed them to cross the sea. And they still had to take the step of faith to get moving.
The same is true for us today.
The breakthroughs we’re look for at work and at home, in our inner world and throughout our communities is not something we can do in our own strength.
In fact, we often frustrate ourselves and burn ourselves out when we live as if life is dependent completely upon our efforts.
Living by faith is learning to stand still and watch God’s redeeming power at work throughout our life and relationships.
But, to be sure, this is not merely sitting on the couch and waiting on God. Something is still required of us.
To live by faith means we’re also taking bold and courageous steps as an act of trust in God’s power.
But here our hard work is not assuming life is still dependent on our efforts. We faithfully get moving in whatever direction God has called us to – looking to and trusting his power to bring the good our hearts are longing for.
In the end, learn to embrace the tension of living by faith – relying completely on God’s power throughout your life while still courageously stepping forward in confident trust.
