As much as we might want God to make life easy, there is a certain joy of exploring and finding our way forward. While God’s glory is in the privilege of keeping some things concealed, our glory as kings is in the dignity of discovering what has been hidden.
Perhaps this is what fuels our competition and general spirit of adventure. There’s something deep in our souls that’s not satisfied with an easy life in which nothing is required of us. And this is why there’s often increasing ambivalence at the thought of retirement. While part of us longs for rest, the call for new discoveries still beckons our name.
As young boys, this might come through exploring our back yard or our favorite hobby. And as we get older the mystery of Eve captivates much of our attention. Even still, throughout life, there’s a part of us that thrives by being challenged and figuring things out.
On the one hand, it’s a mistake to assume we can figure everything out. Much like our wife, even after years on the journey, much mystery still remains. And this is God’s glory. At the same time, it’s a mistake to give up the quest. We allow our souls to slowly die when we stop searching for more of God and exploring all he has given us to know him better. And this means our kingdom becomes a bit more impoverished as well.
Our curiosity keeps our hearts open to be filled with more of God, which in turn blesses all those within the realm of our influence.
In the end, there are many mysteries still to be revealed. Embrace your glory as a king to search and discover all that God has for you.
