Things are not always as they appear. And evil often masquerades as goodness – presenting as a Trojan horse to sneak in behind our usual defenses. We need much spiritual discernment to help us know when something is truly good or just a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
To be sure, most of us have a good heart – simply wanting what’s best for our life and relationships. And we have no desire to intentionally bring pain and suffering to others. As such, we can easily avoid the blatant sins or otherwise obvious paths of destruction.
But evil is cunning and is more prone to take us out through deception. For instance, this is the relationship or opportunity that seems like it was supernaturally placed in our path. We weren’t looking for it, but it seems to speak perfectly to the deep desires of our heart. And, to be fair, its presence is likely supernatural. But is it in service of the Kingdom of Light or the Kingdom of Darkness?
While this might be God’s favor in our life, we must not automatically assume that just because it appears good that it is indeed good. It might be a Trojan horse that deceives us into dropping our defenses. And its poison is not evident until we’re no longer guarding our hearts, but its stronghold has already been set up in our soul.
We must do our due diligence and not just let anything occupy our inner domain of our kingdom. Certainly, this includes intentionally praying to discern if this “gift” is of God, or not. And it’s being watchful and clear headed to detect what fruit is being produced. True goodness and beauty doesn’t require us to compromise God’s truth. And we can name things as the foul spirits they are whenever this compromise is being suggested.
In the end, bring your spiritual eyes of discernment when the perfect gift arrives at your door. While it might be of God, it might also be the Trojan horse of evil seeking to sneak in behind your usual defenses. Stay alert!
