After years of waiting and praying we might finally have what our hearts have been longing for. And it’s tempting to believe that things should be easy from here on out. But this is rarely the case as our Promised Land is generally no cakewalk.
Of course, it’s difficult to wait for the desires of our heart to be fulfilled. There’s a lot of internal wrestling and outward groaning as we wait on God to come through on our behalf.
And it’s only reasonable to expect our life will be better once we enter our Promised Land. And, to be sure, it will be. But this does not mean it will be problem free. In fact, there will still be many difficult days and battles to fight even after God has answered the prayers of our heart.
For example, landing the dream job is often just the beginning. And we now have to offer our blood, sweat, and tears at a new level to faithfully fulfill the job given to us.
Likewise, praying for a wife and kids doesn’t make marriage and parenting any easier. We’re still faced with many hard days even as we’re surrounded by the love our souls longed for.
And even the blessing of sexual faithfulness doesn’t mean we won’t still have to work at our sex life.
Time and again, getting the desires of our heart doesn’t put us on Easy Street.
But admitting these difficulties in our Promised Land doesn’t make us any less grateful for what God has blessed us with either. These are both true at the same time – a heart full of gratitude even as we wrestle through many challenging days.
And holding both of these allows us to remain thankful and humble – deeply appreciative for God bringing us to our Promised Land even as we continue to rely on his grace once there.
In the end, thank God for answering the desires of your heart. And don’t fret when difficult days still come. Even when your Promised Land is no cakewalk God remains faithful to see you through.
