Some opportunities only come around once. And we’ve missed our chance once this door is closed. We must be wise and intentional with the time we have so we don’t wait too late and miss those things important to us.
Generally speaking, time is on our side when we’re young. There’s plenty of time to explore and make mistakes and still move our life in a meaningful direction and achieve many of our goals.
But the older we get the more we realize time is no longer a luxury we can take for granted.
Opportunities available in our youth are not available in the same way as we get older.
For instance, some jobs, like the military, are best suited for the young. We can’t wait to midlife if we want to be a Navy SEAL.
A couple wanting to have a baby also can’t wait forever. The window of fertility is only open for so long.
Likewise, the time we have to reconcile with each other doesn’t last forever either. Eventually death comes and this door is closed.
To be sure, many things in life can be redeemed. Our path might look different and be much harder, but there’s still joy and peace available even after miss opportunities.
All the same, while there’s much grace in our journey, this remains of sober reminder not to waste the time we do have.
We get each day only once and there’s no going back.
This requires us to count the cost and figure out which tradeoffs we’re willing to make.
We’re less likely to regret the decisions we’re intentional in making.
Of course, there’s still often grief along the way. But as we live by faith nothing is wasted and God brings us exactly where we need to be.
Don’t wait too late and let meaningful opportunities pass you by. Make the most of each day and learn to invest in those things that matter the most.
