Life is an adventure that rarely conforms to all our well-made plans. Certainly, there’s wisdom in making plans and having a vision for where we want to go. But we must also learn to dance with life – embracing the many twists and turns that come along the way.

To be sure, many passively drift through life without a clear sense of purpose or direction. They go wherever the winds of life blow.

And there is a certain ease here, as there’s not a lot to figure out and do.

But this also leaves much undone and we’re likely neglecting the work God has called us to do.

On the other hand are those who like to plan every detail. There’s little that misses their watchful eye and they’re clear in every season how they want things to go.

While this certainty can give us great confidence, it can also keep us stuck. We often miss God’s best when we don’t have the freedom to be flexible.

Learning to dance with life gives us both confidence in the vision and the freedom to adjust as needed.

We see where we want to go and we’re intentional in taking meaningful steps toward making our vision a reality. We’re living by faith to accomplish all the good things God has called us to do.

And we also remember that life is an adventure and that God will not be placed in the box of our expectations.

Our journey will require us to meet many new people and go to places we never would’ve dreamed of before. And it will also include many experiences – profound joys and deep sorrows – that we cannot predict and yet will leave us changed forever.

In the end, we learn to dance with it all – stepping forward and yielding as we follow the rhythms of life God has given us.

Courageously embrace the adventures of life. And learn to dance.
