Every battle is not ours to fight. But it seems we each have been given a particular front to advance God’s kingdom of light. And part of fighting this battle also calls us into many adventures – a spiritual frontier without much predictability, control, or comfort.
We often approach life very practically – what do we need to do to meet our basic needs? As such, we tend to focus on training, jobs, and the money we need to secure a safe and stable life. And, to be sure, there’s much wisdom and part of our responsibility in providing for our families.
At the same time, our responsibility doesn’t end here. God has given us each the ability to do certain things well. And this gift is to be used to generate more life and goodness into the world. And the unique ways in which we do this is often our battlefront.
For instance, a teacher might contend for the minds of his students, while an artist fights to bring more beauty into the world, and a small business owner battles to expose and meet the hidden needs of those in his community.
Whatever it looks like, we’re using our gifts and strength to resist the darkness and decay around us, while ushering in more light and love.
And the very nature of this battle also puts us into an epic adventure. To do the work God has called us to do demands a radical life of faith. This doesn’t always mean moving out of the country or even across town. But it does regularly call us out of our comfort zone and exposes our willingness to trust God even when things seem uncertain from our perspective.
In the end, there’s much more to life than merely being safe and secure. God has given you a battle to fight and an adventure to live. Your strength is needed to make a difference and the path will not be a cakewalk.
