God has given us each a measure of his life force that courses through our veins. And for many men this is often experienced as a passionate and sexual energy. But this is much more than a mere desire for sex per se. It reflects God’s passionate desire and love for each of us.

To be sure, many men have wondered why God gave them such high sex drives, and many wives have wondered the same. It often seems more of a burden than a blessing. But much of our confusion and subsequent frustration comes from the assumption that this drive is limited to the act of sex itself.

Of course, it includes this, but it’s best understood as a divine life force driving us toward meaningful connections, to generate more goodness, and to simply drink deeply of the beauty that surrounds us. It’s what drives us to create and build communities, to initiate relational connections, or to just enjoy the simple pleasures of life. And without this passionate energy toward the good our homes and society itself all quickly start to crumble.

While this energy drives us to make our life and relationships better, it’s also a reflection of God’s heart toward us. He’s the one who crafted us the way he did with these intense surges of energy. And our relentless energy to connect with all that is true, good, and beautiful is just a small taste of God’s desire for us.

He stands at the door and knocks with a focused intensity – not giving up or getting otherwise distracted. And it’s this passionate love that we’re to bring to our relationships, and learn to receive ourselves. It’s not transactional or dependent on the other. We love because God first loved us.

In the end, let your passionate energy continue to bring more life and goodness into the world, even as you faithfully reflect the passionate love God has for each of us.
