Perhaps it’s only human to worry and become anxious about the many things in life we cannot control. But worry simply fuels our anxiety and robs us of our peace. And this is where truth once again sets us free and restores peace to our souls.
To be sure, we desire positive outcomes in our work, relationships, and personal wellbeing. And naturally we grow concerned, for example, when the outcome of a major project becomes uncertain, a relational foundation becomes shaky, or we’re waiting in the unknown on test results from the doctor. Whatever it looks like, we’ve invested in the outcome. It matters and has the potential to have a profound impact on our life.
All the same, worrying doesn’t change what is. And this is where we must learn to rest in God’s truth. There is nothing that can separate us from God’s love, neither in life nor in death. And this is the good news that frees our souls from worry – allowing us to rest in peace even as we live and navigate the uncertainties of this life.
Our peace is grounded in God’s truth and not the particular outcomes of our circumstance. In fact, from a human perspective, the outcome might be negative and not what we desire at all. And, of course, we would be disappointed in these moments. But a deeper peace remains because we know we’re still ultimately okay – resting in the truth of God’s love.
When worry and anxiety get the best of us, anger and bitterness are often close by as well because we have less tolerance for the normal ups and downs of life. As such, living in God’s truth not only restores peace to our souls, but it blesses our relationships as well.
In the end, remember to stay grounded in the truth of God’s love as you face the many uncertainties of this life. This gives you a peace that transcends the particular outcomes of your circumstances.
