We’ve each been given a gift for doing certain things well. And this is our superpower for making things happen. But like dynamite, our power can be destructive if it’s not harnessed and used for good. We must use our power in service of love to be a true source of life and goodness in the world.
To be fair, our power can feel unnerving at first, as we’re keenly aware of how different it makes us from others. And we might be prone to deny or otherwise hide our gifts to blend in with others as best we can.
Or, perhaps once we embrace it, we simply focus on making ourselves happy without considering our impact on others.
But, either way, we invite much harm whenever we neglect or misuse the power given to us.
The wise approach is learning how to use our power in service of love. This is not denying nor repressing our gifts. But it’s not unchecked freedom to do what we want with it either.
For instance, we use the power of our words to speak up and encourage each other. And when we lead, we lead caring for the hearts of others and seeking their best long-term interests. Likewise, whether we build or create, connect, discern, or inspire, we do so from a heart committed to loving others and glorifying God.
We’ve each been given power and have the responsibility for wielding it in the service of love.
To be sure, we might appear odd to others, but the call to love remains all the same. And we cannot hold back simply to keep ourselves comfortable. In the same way, we cannot become careless and assume our gift has no impact on others.
In the end, fully embrace the power God has given you to make things happen. It serves no one to deny your gifts. But use your power in service of love to be a true blessing to the world around you.
