Someday at Christmas all our deepest desires will be fulfilled. We will be all that God has created us to be and our souls will no longer be weighed down by the darkness, pain, and corruption of this life. This might not happen during our time in this world, but by faith we trust and rest our hope in the coming of this Christmas day all the same.

With the birth of Jesus, God broke into history to become Immanuel – bringing light into a dark world and the hope of salvation for all people. A weary world rejoiced as a new and glorious morning dawned.

And it’s with this eager anticipation that we look forward to the coming of Christ again.

To be sure, there are many things in this life not as it should be. And we long for that day when Christ returns to make all things new.

Someday at Christmas there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. God will wipe every tear from our eyes, and we will live with the fullness of joy in his presence forever.

But today we wait – getting only brief tastes of this future glory before the reality of this fallen world reminds us, we’re not home yet.

All the same, even here, we wait in hope. And each time we celebrate the Christmas holiday, we’re preparing our hearts for that ultimate Christmas Day still to come. And so, we don’t lose heart even when the weight of this world threatens to take us out.

Someday at Christmas all good things will be ours to enjoy with God and each other.

Take heart. God’s story is not over yet, and Jesus will come again to make everything new. Someday at Christmas we will have peace and joy and every good thing our hearts desire without fail.
