It’s easy to see hardship and struggle and the many things not as it should be in this life. To be sure, our days are marked by many griefs. But God is a God of mercy and offers us many tender mercies for our journey if we can keep our hearts open to receive it.
For instance, on a hard day someone says exactly the kind words our soul needs to hear. Or perhaps we get an extra special goodbye with a loved one before one of life’s major transitions. Or maybe in the midst of our heartache and grief we get personal touches of joy, peace, and comfort.
Whatever it looks like, tender mercies are the ways God blesses us in personal and unique ways for our story. They’re like a Godwink that might not mean much to others, but reminds us that God sees and loves us personally.
And they seem connected to times of desperation and when we’re on the brink of despair. God reminds us of his personal love and care for us when all we see is darkness.
His mercies renew our hope to carry on. They don’t remove all our pain and suffering per se, but rather give us the strength to endure and let our hearts know we are seen and not alone.
Many times we expect God to answer our prayers in big and flashy ways while often he speaks in that still small voice. As such, his tender mercies might be clearly evident and undeniable. But many other times we might be tempted to explain them away as mere coincidences.
And darkness and despair are primed to take us out when the good we experience is considered mere coincidence and God is not personally involved in our story.
God cares for you personally. And his tender mercies are reminders of the many ways he brings a personal touch and blessing to the difficulties you face. Keep your heart open to receive this love.
