Generally speaking, we don’t doubt God’s goodness. But sometimes we wonder if that goodness applies to us personally. Our doubts are then relieved when we receive an unexpected blessing that seems like God is winking at us and giving us just what our souls need in that moment.
To be sure, it’s hard to dismiss the power of a moment that seems like a coincidence but also answers a prayer we didn’t even realize we were praying.
For instance, a friend shows up or calls unexpectedly when we’re having a particularly hard day or rough season. A casual and otherwise insignificant visit for him is a lifesaver for us.
Or perhaps someone gets us the perfect gift without realizing just how meaningful it is to our story.
Or maybe a complete stranger speaks the words of affirmation we didn’t even realize we were waiting to hear.
Certainly, we could dismiss these and many other similar moments as mere coincidences. But it’s timing and precision seems as if God’s hand is in it – arranging the moment just for us.
And this is the essence of a Godwink – a moment of unexpected blessing that lifts our spirits and gives us hope.
And while it comes through others, we know the true origin of this grace is from God himself. As such, we rightly thank the messenger. But our deepest desire of gratitude is to God who sees and cares for us personally.
In the end, we invite more hope and joy into our story when we stay open to Godwinks in their many different shapes, forms, and fashions.
On the other hand, we miss many of the unique and personal ways God loves us when we dismiss everything as mere coincidence.
