We are faced with many battles in life, and even in a given day. It is easy to get discouraged and feel overwhelmed.

Hard Pressed

We are hard pressed on every side – in our work, our relationships, and even our sexuality. Nothing seems to come easy. Everything must be fought for.

We fight not only to earn a living but to do work that matters.

We fight for our marriages, friendships, and for the hearts of our children.

We fight daily with our thoughts and urges, and a sexuality that seems impossible to harness.

Battles of Life

Do I have what it takes to overcome the many obstacles in life?

What do I do when my career seems stuck?

How do I forge deep friendships when the men around me are blissfully shallow?

How do I respond when my wife seems more interested in her friends online than cultivating our marriage? Or when it’s been over a year since we’ve had sex?

What more can I do when my child has runaway for the third time?

It’s All About God

Like Joshua facing the city of Jericho, we must remember it is God who fights our battles. And more accurately and to the point, the battle is actually God’s to begin with.

The question is not whether God is for us or against us– as if we are the hero in the story and it is God who serves us. Rather, the true question is are we with him.

Are we with God in the advancement of his kingdom – bringing more life and goodness into the world?

If so, our strength is given in service of him. He is the hero of the story. It is all about him, even those daily hassles and personal struggles.

So, before we go off charging the battlefields of life, we do well to pause and remember the One we serve – to worship him before we proceed.

We can then rest in certain victory as the battle belongs to the Lord.
