Life happens. But the demands and responsibilities of life don’t stop. The show must go on and we must keep showing up to play our part.

Of course, life is filled with many challenges and we can readily accept these as just part of the package of life in this world. But sometimes the challenge is not the task itself, but rather having to face this task in less than ideal conditions.

For instance, there’s an inherent challenge that comes with running a race. And this same race increases with difficulty when faced with weather that’s too hot or cold, rainy or windy.

And this is similar to the challenges we face throughout much of our life and relationships.

For example, we might have to show up to work even after just having a fight with our wife or staying up late with a sick child. And our kid might still need help with his homework even after a not so good day at the office. Likewise, bills are still due regardless of how bad the month has been for us personally.

Time and again we must keep showing up and doing the work despite facing less than optimal conditions.

This doesn’t mean we must become rigid and dogmatic in our approach. There might be many times in which we need to give ourselves a break, take the day off, or otherwise be kind to ourselves in the midst of difficult days.

Life is not ultimately dependent upon our efforts and we can rest in the hands of our good Father who will care for all of our needs.

At the same time, we cannot neglect the responsibilities he has given to us.

In the end, life will not always present you with ideal conditions. Take a deep breath, reground yourself in God, and carry on. Your strength is needed and the show must go on.
