We all need a helping hand from time to time. Sometimes we simply cannot do it on our own no matter how much our pride might like to prove otherwise. And this is the beauty of partnerships – for two are better than one.
Generally speaking, adults are rightly expected to take care of their basic needs – feeding themselves and caring for their basic hygiene requirements.
But occasionally when we’re sick, we cannot even meet these basic needs. We’re not a child, but in this moment we are helpless to care for ourselves. And we need someone to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves.
We’re completely exposed and vulnerable. And we need someone there we can trust in our time of weakness.
To be sure, this is needed and expected in marriage. And we should regularly bless and honor our wives for being there for us – not taking for granted their care. And it should go without saying that we also should be there for them in their time of need.
At the same time, this is true throughout life.
Two are better than one whenever and wherever we fall down or get stuck.
Perhaps money is tight and a friend chips in to help us out. Or maybe we’re spread thin and our small group watches the kids or runs an errand or two for us.
Likewise, when we’re feeling overwhelmed at work or with the demands of life and relationships, simply having someone to stand with us and lend us a listening ear goes a long way.
In the end, we’re left out in the cold when we try to do life alone. But together we can help each other succeed and live life to the full.
Take care of each other, for two indeed are better than one.
