All too often we sell ourselves too short of what we’re capable of accomplishing. Perhaps we don’t want to appear prideful. Or maybe doubts and insecurities have simply gotten the best of us. In the end, we must learn to rest in the confidence that God has given us what it takes to accomplish what he has called us to do.Pop quizzes, for instance, can cause anxiety even in the best of students. But students faithful in their studies generally have nothing to worry about. And often they’re pleasantly surprised at just how much they’ve already prepared to ace the test. They were being prepared all along even without realizing it.

This is often true for us as well when we’re answering God’s call for our life.

But, unfortunately, we tend to live with much fear – doubting we have what it takes or that we’re ready to answer the call.

Life seems like one pop quiz after another. And performance anxiety often causes us to hold back and play it safe, rather than showing up and allowing our strength to be tested.

However, God has prepared us in each season to respond to the needs in front of us.

Though, to be fair, many lessons come through our failures as well. Having what it takes doesn’t mean answering our call will be a cakewalk. Much will still be required of us.

But knowing that God has prepared us, and is preparing us, we can show up with confidence, even in the face of the unexpected.

We’re not prideful – assuming we can accomplish things in our own strength apart from God. But nor do we give into false humility and neglect the call God has given us.

Instead, we learn to approach life with a certain ease – resting in the strength God has given us to bring more life and goodness into the world.

Life is filled with the unexpected. But God has prepared you for such a time as this.

You have what it takes.
