Many days we burn the candle at both ends and being overly stressed is all too often our baseline for daily living. And naturally this impacts us sexually. Sometimes sex serves as a pressure relief valve and we seek it more often. While at other times we’re so burned out we have no interest in it at all.
On the one hand, sex provides burden free moments of ecstasy in the midst of difficult days. And this is one of its many blessings.
After a long day, or perhaps even before we head out, it’s nice to let all our stresses go and simply enjoy a moment of delight.
But, while sometimes we’re just horny and want a quick release, sex should not become just another form of self-medicating – mere numbing out, escaping, or scratching an itch.
At it’s best, sex allows us to drink deeply and experience a profound taste of the goodness and beauty our souls most deeply long for. And even quickies can serve as an appetizer into this more.
As such, sex brings some relief to the current pressures of life as it also reorientates our souls to the more God has in store for us.
But when stress gets the best of us it can also rob us of these many blessings.
Sex is often the last thing on our minds when it takes everything we have just to make it through our day.
And while certainly there are more important things in life, sex often serves as a good litmus test for our marriage and souls. And we’re probably too busy, or otherwise overextended, when we don’t have the time or energy to regularly engage in the gift of sex God has given us.
In the end, allow sex to provide relief and restoration to your soul in the midst of stressful days. And don’t let stress rob you of this gift either.
