Life is a journey. It takes time to discover who we are and what makes us tick. Many years may go by as we wrestle with the unnamed longings of our soul, and much patience and courage is needed along the way.

Rarely are the big questions of life answered overnight.

What is my purpose?

Who am I to walk through life with?

How do I make sense of the things I have been through?

What are the hidden motivations of my heart?

These are questions to sit with and contemplate before clarity comes.

And we must be both patient and courageous on this journey of discovery.

Patience allows us to leave questions unresolved for now. There is no need to grow anxious or worried for not having an immediate answer, even if everyone around us is pressuring us to have one.

Our timetable for figuring out life’s questions is our own. You are not behind. True answers do not emerge by merely conforming to other’s expectations.

With patience, we must also be courageous in not giving up the struggle to discover a solution to life’s questions.

We must stay actively involved – wrestling with the inner movements of our heart. And like Jacob, not giving up until we receive our blessing.

Without patience we might settle for quick and easy answers, which would fail to satisfy our deepest longings and might even frustrate our journey. Patience allows us to walk with God, trusting his timing and blessing in our lives.

Without courage we might grow passive, always waiting and never taking that next step. Courage gives us an active faith – the will to continue trusting God even when the answers are unclear.

Be patient and very courageous in discovering all that God has for you.
