Some things are outside of our control and our efforts might do little to actually change the final outcome. But our integrity demands we not drop the ball on our watch regardless of how hopeless the situation seems.

Perhaps we know the standard of excellence possible at work. But few seem willing to put in the sweat equity needed to achieve this standard. In fact, the cultural norm might be to cut corners and value cheap and easy over depth and quality.

We might soon wonder why we’re putting in the extra effort when everyone else seems happier doing and receiving less.

To be sure, we could join the crowd and no one would think any less of us. We might actually get more grief by trying to do more. We’re rocking the boat and thinking too high of ourselves.

But, in the end, this becomes a point of integrity – faithfully upholding the quality of our work as a gift back to God.

Our efforts might not change the culture around us and we might still be criticized for trying too hard.

But we take a stand all the same and declare that quality will not be compromised on our watch.

We work to please God – giving him our highest good and not just what we can get away with.

And this plays out in relationships as well.

For instance, we do our part to live at peace with others even when they’re not doing theirs. We refuse to drop the ball of lovingkindness on our watch.

Taking a meaningful stand might often seem small and insignificant from a human perspective. But God sees our faithful stewardship and will reward us accordingly.

Don’t take the easy road and compromise just to fit in or be liked by others. Do your part to uphold everything that is true and good on your watch.
