Many things we can plan and control in life. But many aspects remain outside of our ability to direct. We do well to surrender our attempts to control life – resting instead in the goodness of God’s sovereignty.

Generally speaking, we have the freedom to eat, work, travel, and live exactly as we desire.

Our biggest limitation is often our own imagination and willingness to live boldly in faith.

However, despite all our well-made plans, much of life is still outside of our control.

Nature provides a good reminder of this. It’s wild and does not yield to our wishes.

The rain, for example, does not stop for our ball games, weddings, or parades. We must adjust to it. It does not change for us.

Likewise, there are many times in which we must also adjust to a reality outside of our control in our life and relationships.

This is not to live in despair, but to rest in the one who is in control.

God is sovereign over all. He is the one who controls the rain.

So even when we don’t understand and our plans are rained out, we choose to trust that God is somehow working all things toward good.

This is not easy. We like to predict and control outcomes. But we only frustrate ourselves when we try to put God in a box or tame the wildness of his nature.

Time and again we must let go of our attempts to control and trust in the perfect wisdom of God.

He provides the rain at just the right time as he also works out his plans for our life.

Surrender control and rest in his goodness. He is faithful and you can trust him.
