Seasons come and go. And when one project is done we move quickly into the next. But rarely do we take the time to review our journey. Taking time to pause and reflect allows us to grow into our best self.

Generally speaking, it is good to keep our eyes focused on where we are going. This gives us clarity and increases our chances of actually getting where we want to be.

At the same time, wisdom reminds us to occasionally pause and reflect on our journey.

Are we still heading toward our destination? Have our desires changed? Would a different mode of transportation be better?

Most jobs conduct an annual review – an opportunity to reflect on the employee’s contribution to the organization.

The anticipation of a new year and anniversaries are also times of reflection. We look back over the past year and consider what we would like to see in the year to come.

We need these moments of reflection throughout life, in big and small measure.

Certainly it’s good to reflect on our days, weeks, and months. But occasionally we also need to take another step back and review our past year and even decade.

Who is the man I want to be? Is this the man I am becoming? What supports my growth? What hinders it?

Regular reflection keeps us from drifting.

Even with the best of intentions it’s easy to get distracted or stuck in autopilot as the years pass us by. We look up and we’ve aged but we’ve not grown.

Don’t merely go through the motions of life without taking a moment to pause and reflect.

A moment of true reflection can turn years of regret into years of deep fulfillment and joy.
