Many things we need to hear often. Sometimes we forget and need to review again. And at other times we simply fill up by hearing certain truths and affirmations time and again.
Certainly, it’s easy to forget. We discover a kernel of truth only to lose it as the demands and busyness of life consume us. The seed gets choked out and we forget.
For instance, it’s not a coincidence the people of God are frequently called to remember. And it’s not that we always willfully turn away from God, but we tend to drift. We start focusing on other things and soon we forget our life with God.
Traditions and rituals help us to remember. They establish regular rhythms for us to check in with ourselves and ensure we’re where we need to be.
At other times, it’s not that we’ve forgotten per se, but our hearts still need to hear certain truths again.
For example, we probably don’t grow tired of someone’s expressions of love and affirmation toward us. And the repetition is less for our heads and more for our hearts.
Receiving time and again allows us to fully soak in what is true and breathe it in deeply.
To be sure, this is a gift we can offer others and stay open to the infinite ways God is pouring into our lives as well.
As much as we might assume a once and done approach to life, we often need rhythms of time and again.
This helps us not to forget what matters while also enriching our life in many ways.
Review and repeat what matters as often as necessary. Our souls deepen as we marinate in what is true and beautiful time and again.
