Life has many defining moments – milestones that mark new beginnings. But more often than not we discover the deep joys of life and relationships through the million little things of daily living.

To be sure, the big events of life are hard to forget, whether we remember them fondly or with the sting of grief.

Weddings, the birth of a child, or the death of a loved one all profoundly leave their mark on our story. And smaller moments can easily be overlooked by such nodal events.

But as we tell our story it’s often the million little things that we cherish the most.

-The silly quirks of our wife and even her annoying habits

-The noise, laughter, and even messy presence of our children as they grow

-And the glimmer in our friend’s eye after being apart and then seeing each other again

The list can go on and on.

Perhaps it’s the random phone call or text message just because, the countless hours enjoying conversations and hobbies together, or the eccentric dress and particular favorites of the other.

Whatever the case, it’s these little things that make us smile and fill our hearts with joy.

But unfortunately we also tend to take these moments for granted. Much like our breath – we don’t think about them until they’re gone.

But there’s power here to harness.

We don’t have to constantly strive for big flashy moments in order to enjoy a meaningful life. We can greatly enrich our life by intentionally cultivating and paying attention to these little things.

Big events are great and worthy of celebration. But it’s often the small moments so easy to overlook that fill our souls the most.

The good life is made up of a million little things. Pay attention and enjoy.
