Life is increasingly complex and it’s hard to keep up with the many demands on our time and souls. We must regularly return to the discipline of simplicity to maintain our sanity and soul’s vitality.

Modern conveniences make our lives easier and more connected in many respects. With just a few clicks we can order virtually any item and have it delivered to our doorstep.

And with just a little effort we can access unlimited amounts of information and connect with individuals across the globe.

While there are many benefits of living in our modern age, there are also many challenges.

And one major challenge is keeping up with the growing complexity of life.

Externally things move faster and faster, but our souls continue at their own pace. Our inner world runs deep and often much slower than things on the outside.

As such, the practice of simplicity allows our souls to catch up and breathe again.

Perhaps there’s busy work we can let go of. Or maybe we can engage in the practices of silence, stillness, and solitude.

Certainly, there’s a time and place to do nothing and spending time in nature also has a way revitalizing our souls.

In the end, the practice of simplicity seeks to reduce the clutter in our lives and give our inner world space for much needed peace.

And while it’s not always possible to go off the grid for extend periods of time, we can cultivate micropractices to care for our soul.

Likewise, we don’t have to cave into the constant cultural pressure of ever bigger and faster. We can remember that in the life of the soul many times less is more.

Let the simple life restore your soul.
