Life is filled with challenges not of our choosing. And we might wish not to face the particular hardships before us. But perhaps we were born for such a time as this.

Most days we simply go about our daily business trying to earn a living and provide for our families. And if we’re wise, we might also spend time intentionally reflecting on our purpose and considering God’s calling for our life.

But despite all our planning and pondering, we’re often called out of our business as usual by predicaments we didn’t choose. Certain challenges arise which demand our response and take our story into uncharted territories.

Our natural response is to play it safe and avoid doing something different if possible.

Like Moses, we might downplay our ability to make a difference. Or like Jonah, we might run in the opposite direction of where we’re being called.

But in the end, we cannot outrun the story God has given us. And he has prepared us for such a time as this.

He has given us talents and abilities and has placed us in unique positions to make an impact for good in the world around us.

When tragedy strikes our communities, for example, it’s time for us to rise up and answer the call to serve.

We were not created to sit on the sidelines and merely look to others to meet the needs of our community.

Certainly, we cannot do it all alone, but we have our part to play. Our unique strength is needed.

And however disruptive, the call before us is not random. We have been prepared to fulfill the needs of this moment and it’s our time to shine.

You were born for such a time as this. Use your strength for good.
